Conyers History
The present-day city of Conyers was originally inhabited by Native Americans. The area was first settled in by Europeans around 1820. A blacksmith named John Holcomb was the first European settler of Conyers. The city was named after Dr. John Conyers, who sold his land to the Georgia Railroad for the construction of a train depot. The railroad began operating around 1845 and Conyers was incorporated in 1854. It became the county seat in 1870.
